Limerick Easter Commemoration 2016

Newly elected Sinn Féin TD for Limerick City, Maurice Quinlivan will be the main speaker at the annual Limerick City Sinn Féin 1916 Commemoration, which will take place at the Republican Plot, Mount St. Laurence on this Easter Sunday.

The assembly point and time for the event will be outside the main gate of the cemetery at 11.45am.

Deputy Quinlivan said that this commemoration is of particular importance in this the centenary year of the Easter Rising.  “However, it should be pointed out that Republicans have consistently held such a commemoration on Easter Sunday over the decades to remember the Rising and indeed all those who have given their lives in the struggle for Irish freedom and an all Ireland Republic” He added that “while this year’s commemoration is of special significance the fact is that Sinn Féin also had a similar commemoration last year and hope to do so again next year – for us this is no one-off event.”

Following the main commemoration there will be a brief wreath laying ceremony at the grave of IRA Volunteer Sean Glynn of Pennywell who died as a result of ill treatment in Arbour Hill Military Prison in September 1936.
